I went to a conference last summer in San Jose, "Institute for Teachers of Color Committed to Racial Justice" and one of the presenters showed a video "What kind of Asian Are You?" http://youtu.be/DWynJkN5HbQ and it was GREAT! It pokes fun at the VERY stereotypical things that people say to Asian Americans. There is also an article that I found on the Huffington Post that addresses this issue. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rev-vicki-flippin/what-are-you-reflections-on-asian-american-and-hapa-identity_b_3351770.html The article from the Huffington Post digs at the very heart of questions like, "Where are you from?" and "What are you?" and why questions like that may be infuriating to some. I think it will go very well with my topic of Identity, weaving the issues of culture, ethnicity, and what it means to be "American" throughout.
