The website I will be reviewing is a geography based website. The home page gives a whole worldview of Asia. I thought that was a good feature because it gives the students a world perspective of East Asian countries and their neighbors.
One feature that I really like, was the link to web site for any country by double clicking a country’s name. So in terms of user ease it is quite high. I also like the visuals provided. They provide two views of the country once the link is activated Asia world, and country’s political map.
Another feature that makes this site very user friendly is the links providing information for each country. It provides a link that gives a brief history of the country, none longer than two pages. The site provides picture of famous landmarks and cultural treasures as well as a list of world famous people from each country. More than anything it provides a list of additional links for students to explore.
There are a few ways I would incorporate the information from this web page in my study of East Asia. First I would review the web site and features for the class. We would go over basic geography using the maps provided, identify the main country, neighbors, natural resources available. After getting the students familiar with the site layout, I would then assign a web quest worksheet requiring students to explore the web page and provide the answers required on the web quest. I feel these two activities would lay the foundation for moving forward coving the history of East Asia. Also the site provides a number of links for additional research releving the teacher of this time consuming duty.
