I found this website extremely useful because it contains all the information you need to know about China. There are links related to Chinese culture, art, diplomacy, government, finance, health, science, history, sports, traveling, military , and many more topics of interest. I found two links particularly interesting: The link to Diplomacy Missions and Science and Technology.
The link to diplomacy Missions takes you to other links, one of them is tilted “China Government English Website.” This site provides information on all of the new developments the government is investing in such as building new highways, railways, subway lines, and trade conflicts with the U.S. One particular section that got my attention is the environmental link to “Green Stategy.” It was my understanding that China was one of the worst countries in protecting the environment, and that is one of the countries with the highest CO2 emission in the world. I believe this is due to the fact that china is developing at such fast rate that it cannot keep up with creating and enforcing environmental policies and regulations. A quote from the government site describes a concern that the government is trying to address: “Responding to stresses on natural resources caused by fast economic growth, development and urbanization, the state at the turn of the 21st century responded with a "green strategy" that includes developing a revolving economy, increasing resource-use efficiency; developing clean production, reducing pollution cost in production processes; developing green consumption, reducing ecological impact of consumption; developing new energy resources, reforming production methods, moving toward ecological industrial civilization, and creating a balanced ecological environment.” I wonder how strict is the Chinese Government in enforcing its environmental policies, there was no information on this topic.
Science and technology. It seems that China is making a lot of progress in this field. It is impressive to see all the project china is currently funding such as launching space probes. Although most of the links are in English, there are a few links that I was interested in learning more about that are in Chinese. All the scientific and technological advances in China may make any developed country nervous because it seems that China is soon catching up with them.
I liked this website because its comprehensive bank of information on many topics one would like to learn about China. The link to this website is : http://www.chinatoday.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://www.chinatoday.com/December 30, 2012 at 8:45 am #19091Anonymous

Topic: 75th Anniversary of the Rape of Nanking, Article: “Refusing to let a tragedy fade,” by Cang Wei and Song WenweiThe website chinadailyusa.com is the only news website based in China that is written in English and intended for an American audience. In addition to the website, China Daily can also be found in newspaper form in most major US cities.
Chinadailyusa.com provides an abundance of current event articles on various China-related topics. The article I decided to focus on is about the 75th anniversary of the Rape of Nanking. The article focuses mainly on Li Gaoshau, 88, who is one of 3 Chinese soldiers who lived through the massacre and is still alive. In the article, Li recounts how he is only alive today because of dumb luck. Li and other Chinese soldiers were captured in the first few days of the invasion, and placed in a shed-like building. Japanese soldiers subsequently littered the building with machine gunfire. Li was unscathed, and, after climbing over the dead bodies of his compatriots, made his way to the roof of the building, where he remained for 3 days and nights with no food or water. After 3 days, Li decided to leave the building, and managed to evade the enemy, making his way west to safety. Li still lives in Nanjing today and volunteers once a week at the memorial hall dedicated to the massacre.
Another survivor’s story chronicled in the article is that of Xia Shuqin, 83. Like Li, she was assumed for dead by Japanese soldiers who had repeatedly stabbed Xia, her parents, and two sisters (who were also rapped, along with her mother). Though her family quickly died from their wounds, Xia was only stabbed three times, and all three stab wounds miraculously avoided major arteries. Xia recalls in the article how she lived with her dead family members for several days before daring to venture out into the city. As luck would have it, she found refuge in the safe zone created by German businessman, John Rabe, who would end up saving hundreds of Chinese during the conflict.
Because it is the 75th anniversary of the Nanking massacre, the website had 3 other articles on the topic. One article chronicled how an encyclopedia is being created to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the tragedy. A second article writes about an event that was staged at the memorial hall, also in commemoration of the anniversary. A third article is a first person account by a woman whose family left Nanking a few days before the massacre. She writes about what the city was like after returning to it several days later.
Other interesting article topics on the website included: a recent meeting between President Carter and Chinese party chief Xi Jinping; forecasts for the Chinese economy in 2013; the increase in usage of online video sites by Chinese citizens.
Chinadailyusa.com is a very enjoyable website to read through. The articles are interesting, well-written, and informative. This website is a very user friendly way for Americans to learn more about China.
