GuestI am Chris Nelson. I teach 6th grade language arts and social science in Redondo Beach. I have been teaching ancient China to 11 and 12 year olds for the last three years and I am anxious to increase my knowledge that is although limited, much more thorough than it was five years ago. I received my bachelors of arts in Theatre at USC in 1998, and have been balancing school with acting ever since. I hope to get some good ideas or at least pointed in the direction of some good ideas for me to use for the sixth grade, 4th quarter play, which should have some sort of Asia theme... Any ideas?
Chris

GuestHello Everyone,
My name is Sally Zuniga. Currently I teach at Student Empowerment Academy New Technology High School... yes our name is very long 😉 Our school used to be a small learning community at Jefferson High School, but a small group of teachers including myself, we opened our own school. Our school is located at the back end of Jefferson's campus. We are a completely independent school with our own teaching staff, students and budget. I team teach American Literature with American History, which is one of the major reasons I signed up for this seminar. Our effort have produced positive results and wish we continue to do well.
I love learning anything Asia. I was very fortunate to visit Beijing in 2002 and wish I could experience other countries.April 15, 2010 at 3:28 am #28517Anonymous
GuestHello Everyone,
My name is Moses Gutierrez. I attended my first class in Manhattan Beach on Apr 13. I am a counselor for John Adams Gifted/High Ability Magnet MS. I look forward to learning alot of information about Japan, China, and the Koreas. I also have a social science credential, but I feel I have a lack of knowledge about this portion of the world's history.

GuestHi everyone,
It is so good to finally be able to join you on the discussion board. There were a few technical difficulties with my account, but all is well now. Anyhow, I just want to start off by introducing myself. My name is Shari Moseley and I am currently one of two Resource Specialist Teachers (RST) for the 6th grade at Peary Middle School in Gardena, California. In addition to the RST role, I am also a classroom teacher for a 7th grade Learning Center class that focuses on developing mathematics and English skills. I am so excited to be a part of this course. My attendance in the course is long overdue. I have had an interest, but never applied. After getting my "umpteenth" e-mail (hehehe) from the USC US-China Institute during my Spring Break, I decided that it was a good time to apply. The school year is winding down and my evenings are relatively free. I look forward to learning more creative ways to introduce East Asia to my class. In addition, I am enjoying learning about Korea, Japan, and China. I hope to one day be able to visit one of these countries and bring back international knowledge to my classroom.
Sincerely,
ShariMay 5, 2010 at 5:30 am #28519Anonymous

GuestHello Xjin and all teachers in this class,
I finally know how to post or at least this is what I think. I just want to introduce myself. My name is Joaquin Quintero and I teach mathematics at Gardena High and I been at this school for over 13 years.
I am interested in Asia because many of my students are from that part of the world and I like to reach and connect with them so that I am more effective in my teaching. Also, their culture is very interesting and fascinating, so I like to learn more. We do so many business with Asia that it makes it extremely important to learn as much as possible about it. I also like to know how to differentiate between different counties with in Asia. This is all for now, but now that I know how to post I'll be doing a lot more of this.
thanks to Ms. Rise to help me on how to post, she alway seats next to me in our meetings, so that you know who she is.Joaquin Quintero[Edit by="jquintero on May 13, 3:45:22 PM"][/Edit]
