GuestMike Lloyd. I teach 8th grade US History at South Gate Middle School. I'm taking this course for many reasons: free salary points, are you kidding?; it's about Asia and I like that because I lived in Japan for a few years and my wife's family is there which keeps our family very much connected to all things Japanese; and it should give me some ideas to use in the classroom.

GuestHi, Miranda, This is Curt Hartman. I have been teaching for 23 years in L.A.U.S.D. and currently teach at Hamilton High School. I enrolled in the seminar because I am interested in learning more about East Asia and am always looking for ways to add multicultural literature to my curriculm. I like to include historical, cultural, and social contexts to the literature I teach. The readings on Asian literature, history, and philosophy look very intriguing.

GuestMiranda,
I have a multi-subject credential so I can really teach all subjects. I have been assigned to teach math and science. All my career, as a public school teacher, I have taught sixth grade.
I have taught English three times in China during summer breaks. I also work a lot with Koreans in the Koreatown region of L.A. I feel compelled to learn more about China, in particular and other Asian countries, in general.
Some of this material can be used in sixth rade science: Earth Science. Other points can be used to cultural awareness. It would be a big stretch to use it as literary device given the curriculum I am assigned. You never KNOW!!!
This is going to be great. I hope that I can keep up.Sharron<><

GuestHello Everyone,
I am Josephine Cheng. I am currently teaching 7th grade Mathematics and an Intro Mandarin class at Horace Mann Middle School.
I was born in Hong Kong and immigrated to California when I was 15 years old. Although I am familiar with the Chinese culture, I don't know much about the history of Asia. I sometimes feel embarrassed because some people know more than me. Also, I want to deliver more aspects of China to my students through this seminar.
See all of you again soon
