Interesting Question...I enjoy reading a lot of sci fi literature and watching sci fi films. Often sci fi writers are described as being prophetic, and I do recall in a story, maybe Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep (Bladerunner), the dominant language in the story which took place in San Francisco is a mixture of English, Spanish, Chinese, and some other Asian languages possibly. It's depicted somewhat in the film as you see the characters speaking some mixture of English and Asian languages. There are common known terms already for this sort of fusion of languages. Spanglish and Konglish (Korean/English) have become common terms to describe the idea.

It's sad how many/most US high schools still insist on teaching French, German, Latin but most just ignore Mandarin or Cantonese. The Chinese are quickly becoming the country that will have the most English speakers. International Business students better start enrolling in classes to speak Mandarin or Cantonese

Interesting article about the future of languages....Some may protest that it is not English but Mandarin Chinese that will eventually become the world’s language, because of the size of the Chinese population and the increasing economic might of their nation. But that’s unlikely. For one, English happens to have gotten there first. It is now so deeply entrenched in print, education and media that switching to anything else would entail an enormous effort. We retain the QWERTY keyboard and AC current for similar reasons. http://www.wsj.com/articles/what-the-world-will-speak-in-2115-1420234648
