GuestThanks Kami for the Summary. I had never heard of SPICE before this Saturday workshop. It just reaffimed some of my ideas on my Asia Geography Unit when Gary addressed the themes under National Geographic Society---Human/Environment, Region, Location and one one more which escapes me at the moment.

GuestThe website with the virtual village (virtualvillage.wesleyan.edu) is very useful. i have used it with my 5th graders when talking about the unit 3 Heritage unit. it also goes well with the immigration unit in the ESL sessions with the Into English! program.
One book i am interested in getting (one of the many i should say) is "River Road to China: The Search for the Source of the Mekong, 1866-73" which one of the presenters talked about.

GuestKami~ Thank you for posting the information provided from Mr.Mukai.
I thought it was helpful that he was able to break up each presentation and give us ideas on how to utilize this in the classroom. Mr.Mukai's input helped to put the presentation into perspective on using the information provided: as each presenter shared such valuable information on Islam in China, that it was quite overwhelming for a day's workshop.
As a teacher, I appreciate having the opportunity to have these professors take time out of their schedule to share with us their knowledge. It is unfortunate that many teachers do not have the same opportunities, especially with the circumstances happening in our world today: we need to educate ourselves to give our students accurate information, instead of a bias view.
The visual village is such a great tool to introduce to our students, who are such visual learners.
For me the challenge is gathering all this wonderful information and doing modifications to accomodate my students learning deficits.July 22, 2007 at 9:13 am #23526Anonymous
GuestThe workshop was EXCELLENT!!!
I didn't think I could learn soooo much in one day. All the speakers were very knowledgeable. It is a shame that only about 20 or so people were able to enjoy this workshop. I love the technology and all the hands-on “realia” that were there for us to look at.
I will be attending more workshops like this in the future…
