On December 9th, I substituted a sixth grade class during my prep period. It was science time, the students were learning about volcanos. The intro paragraph said that cars and factories were big polluters, but volcanos polluted worst than cars. I asked students if they knew which was the country with a lot of pollution. Two boys said India and China. I asked which country had a red alert about too much smog? One of the boys said China. We went on to have a class discussion about pollution and contaminants. I was impressed with those two boys because they knew a lot about East Asia. They ended asking me how did I know so much about East Asia, so I told them that I had taken two class on East Asia history at USC. They too were impressed with me, since I am the Spanish teacher not a history teacher.
