Humility is a universal virtue, in relation to the ego and an over-inflated sense of self worth. Humility in the context of this writing seems to mean something else- more like "know your place" which is beneath others. How horrifying that female babies play with pot shards below the bed. This doesn't teach humility- it teaches worthlessness.

Some of Zhao's Admonition for women principles parallel those of Latin America. Particularly, right after the Spanish conquest in the 15th century. According to Zhao, the natural order is neglected and destroyed if husbands do not effectively control their wives. These principles and expectations were and in some ways continue to be shared in many parts of Latin America. Zhao also makes it clear that women that are about to marry to be careful as in not to shame their lineage. Once again, this principle is comparable to those that influence the Latin American culture to some degree.

Basically, this article tells women to be invisible. Women are supposed to serve everyone else but themselves. To me, that is not living.
