For my East Asian lesson plan, I will teaching my students about Chinese New Year. I plan to focus on studying the Chinese Calendar, the traditions, and finally the decorations. To help me plan and teach these lessons I found the following websites:

Chinese Calendar: This page shows the history of the Chinses Calendar, the Chinese Zodiac, and explains how to use the Chinese Calendar.
    http://www.webexhibits.org/calendars/calendar-chinese.html

    New Year Celebrations:
    http://education2.uvic.ca/Faculty/mroth/438/CHINA/15-day_celebration.html - explains the 15 day celebration
http://chinese-new-year.123holiday.net/index.html - the history of Chinese New Year

    Decorations:
    http://education2.uvic.ca/Faculty/mroth/438/CHINA/decorations.html

These websites provide a good, basic description and traditions of Chinese New Year. I plan on having students work in groups at a computer to complete activities using the information. Some of my 4th graders will need a bit of help to be able to understand the information on the websites.

I found the more detailed celebration of the chinese new year very interesting. I had not know that each day had a different celebration. It interesting and something i can use in my classroom.
