Chinese kids learned to recite poetry when they are very young. With my Mandarin immersion class, I ask students to get into group of two, and read these poems with the video provided in the page. They can pick the poem they like the most, and underline the words they think are most important to show the main idea after reading the meaning of the poem. The products can be a poster, a picture, a story, a song, or a performance of the poem, which contains some of the important words they underline. The purpose of this activity in an immersion class is not teaching the kids to write or read Chinese poems, but learning the rhythm of poems and understand the how Chinese poets approaches their ideas/opinions through regular objects.

You just gave me an idea, I could have students write poems in the Sijo Korean style and Chinese for extra credit.
