Briefly, Daoists resisted imperial ruling party and were popular among lower status people in china. If you have any thoughts regarding our debate on Saturday, let us talk and prepare on specifics preferably divided in five areas. edited by jkim on 10/11/2012
I am still trying to absorb as much information on this topic, but I am sure I will be ready. Most of the articles that I have read make connections betweem Daoism and Confusion. I am trying to make the clear distinction between these two and the other two. I do understand your point on its popularity amonst the lower class, but I read that it was "pushed" by the upper middle class. Where they trying to support the cause of the majority or was there a hidden agenda? I want to make sure I undertand my topic. What was the history of the country during this time? Any famines? Unrest? Wars between classes?
I am glad I was assigned to the Daoist group. I like the philosophy of Daoism: Live a simple honest life and noninterference with the course of natural events. As some one else mentioned, at first it was difficult ot really wrasp the concept of this philosophy since often is compared to confucianism. For some reason they seem very similar and it was difficult for me to tell them apart.
I feel that there is a little of Daoism in Confusionism. Confucius believed in role playing and old ways. The Daoist believed in following the Natural order and not disturbing what was already in order. I feel that confusionism is following the natural order of things but in an educated way. Respecting all roles and paying respects to the ancestors.
