I love the Confucius sayings! So wise. As I was reading, I kept thinking how great some of the Confucius quotes would be in the classroom to teach say/mean/matter. This is a technique English teachers use to help students analyze quotations and see the "bigger" picture. This quote would be a great example: "the gentleman understands integrity; the petty person knows about profit." The "say" is the quote. The "mean" is interpreting the quote. The "matter" is the importance and relating it to their own lives. So many sage sayings to use in the classroom. I always love reading Confucius quotes! Should be interesting to talk and debate about the different philosophies tomorrow.

I agree with you whole-heartedly, I love his sayings! My two favorite from the readings were:

"The gentleman reveres three things. He reveres the mandate of Heaven;he reveres great people;and he reveres the words of the sages."

"The gentleman is exalted and yet not proud. The petty person is proud and yet not exalted."

I never thought about using quotes in my lessons but I think you've inspired me to give it a shot."think different." -apple, inc.

This ideology creates a structured hierarchy. People learn through benevolence and learning through this system creates inherent learning. Personally, this theology is too controlling and one sided, but I see the ideas about family heavily influencing my Japanese side of my family.
