Visiting the Forbidden City the day after the Great Wall Marathon was excruciating. There was lots of walking to do that day. Walking from Tiananmen Square to the actual Forbidden City was amazing but my toes were swollen and in a lot of pain. Regardless of this, this was a beautiful sight. I took a few pictures in front of Mao Zedong’s painting (which gets replaced every year). I learned about Mao’s resting place, although, I could not enter the building because there were hundreds of people there that day. Entering the Forbidden City was great. My tour guide explained the significance about the architecture and the chariots that reside in the roof tops. According to my tour guide, more dragons that a building has (nine), the most important that building is considered. My favorite part of visiting the Forbidden City were the five different bridges that lead to the North gate. These bridges represent: Credibility, Sensibility, Benevolence, Righteousness and Respect. I chose the bridge of respect and walked though it to cross to the other side. This was a very peaceful and cleansing experience for me. I felt as if I was in complete wonder and at peace with myself.
