Kidipede is a children's online encyclopedia covering mainly history and science topics. Click here: http://www.historyforkids.org/ to go to the History for Kids home page. Children (Upper Elementary, Middle School, and High School) may access topics such as Ancient China or Ancient India (and many more). Each topic is further divided more specifically. For example under Ancient China students can find: Chinese History, Chinese Art, China Architecture, Chinese Daily Life, Chinese Religion, Chinese Literature, and Chinese Inventions. And, there are various projects for students to complete, as well as an online teacher's guide. This is an excellent one-stop source for students to learn all about the different aspects of daily life, culture, economy, and government of the people of ancient civilizations. Easy to access and easy to navigate for individual or cooperative group research.
This site was begun in 1995 as a community service project and is now maintained and updated by Dr. Karen Carr. She is Professor Emeritus of History at Portland State University. Check it out!!

This website is targeted at a younger audience. It seems to be for an elementary and/or middle school level audience. There are a variety of activities that they can do such as coloring sheets, puzzles, traditional stories/fables, flag printables, pattern printables, and games. I think that my middle school students would enjoy the coloring sheets as an early finisher activity or to get ideas for their projects. This site even includes an interactive (Google) map. Students are able to zoom in and out to possibly compare distances between cities.
