Perhaps Feng Yan's wife actually was the cruel, haggard wretch he purports her to be. It's humorous to hear of him talk of "sending her back" as if he ordered her on Amazon. He probably didn't even keep the box

I agree with you that this letter is sad. What is most perplexing is why Feng Yan waited so long to make this decision. I also find it surprising why he needs to explain himself to others after all that he's gone through with this woman. I'm sure that his extended family have been waiting many years for him to make this decision without needing an explanation and/or justification. I see this as extremely cowardly. It would be interesting to hear her take on all these allegations against her. I'm sure her letter would be quite interesting and entertaining to read.

This letter is sad because it describes a woman who is a terrible wife. The saddest part is that the writer admits at the end that he allowed her to became who she is and therefore, destroy his household. The writer's words make it sound like she controls everything in the house. He and the rest of the family are victims being oppressed by a female dictator.

He describes her as "jealous" and says he is tired of her "overbearing aggressiveness." Then he says this about himself; "anxiety cuts so deeply that I can hardly bear to go on living. My rage is so great that I often forget the calamaties I might cause." To me, he is a coward because he has held his feelings in so long that he is ready to explode.

    That is so sad.
