    I chose this lesson from the Stanford “Reading Like a Historian” website (http://sheg.stanford.edu/rlh). The Stanford website has many lessons for Word and US History. This Korean War one looks at textbook depictions of the events leading up to the Korean War. Students are asked to determine from which textbook the excerpts came. It isn’t hard to determine the historical spin coming from each of the two documents. This is a great lesson to look at multiple perspectives, bias, and analyzing secondary sources.
    The discussion of textbooks exists outside of the classroom, as countries debate how it chooses to represent itself when selecting (and writing) textbooks for classroom use. The lesson can be downloaded and students have comparison worksheets they can fill out.
