The website for the Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena, CA is a well constructed and easily navigable site that contains a tremendous amount of information and can be a fun and interesting teaching tool. http://www.pacificasiamuseum.org/_on_view/online.aspx The site currently features 4 topics: 1) Chinese Ceramics 2) Visions of Enlightenment: Art of Buddhism 3) Nature of the Beast: Animals in Japanese Paintings and Prints 4) Rank and Style: Power Dressing in Imperial China.

Upon entering one of the exhibitions, the user will find an extensive sub-menu of many pages that contain beautiful pieces of East Asian art and informative text that accompanies each page. The pages are colorful and have interesting and creative pop-up menus, animation and visual effects that students will enjoy. Each exhibition is accompanied by traditional Asian music that adds an extra dimension that introduces students to this art form. Students will also find additional online and print resources where they can find more sources for any type of assignment.

This is really cool! I'm very interested in the way social classes exhibit their status through dress. I was able to click on the online exhibit "Rank and Style: Power Dressing in Imperial China" and discovered that the Chinese had a very comprehensive system, with different members wearing badges that contained different symbols that symbolized not only their class but their rank within the class. The various symbols they used are very telling for example military officers usually wore badges that contained tigers.
