A quick read of Nakane Mihoko in the "the Diary of an evacuated school girl" reminded me of the trip that a L.A area company organizes for the teachers to the Japanese internment camp at Manazar (?). The difference is here it is done by the U.S. govt in the name of 'national security' while there it is done by the Japanese govt in the name of 'safety'.
My mom and I want to go on that trip to Manzanar. The next one is coming up on April 28 with a workshop on April 23. The evacuation in the diary seemed bitter sweet. There is much to be admired and yet something huge and ominous at the same time. the discipline, morality, and simplicity are all so good, yet the limited supplies (albeit understandable under the circumstances) and the mind and thought control reminded me of George Orwell's 1984.
