With all due respect to my own country and its antecedents in Europe...Liberal democracies like the US and the UK were responsible for millions of indigenous people in the Americas dying from imported diseases and enslavement at the same time that millions of Africans were being kidnapped and brought in chains to the western hemisphere. Millions of them died en route and in the captivity that followed. It was then the democratic US that kept these Africans in virtual bondage even after the official end of slavery. Democracies are quite capable of committing atrocities as well.
