Thank you for sharing this site. I found that it was very educator heavy and provided several resources. I also found that it had more information pertaining to Japan than to other topics we've covered in class. The part that helps students is the "Visualizing Cultures". I think this hyperlink sends students to image driven content. I think this would be helpful for EL and for students who need the visual representation.
Korea has often been referred to as America's forgotten war. But there is another war that played an important part in building towards the eventual outbreak of World War II which the United States played an important role without actually participating in the fighting itself. That is the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-05. In seeking out web sites that can be used as teaching resources I came across one that is run by the Russo-Japanese War Research Society. It can be found at: http://www.russojapanesewar.com The site is a wealth of information useful for any instructor not familiar with this particular event. Here you can find pictures and photos, documents, maps, charts, details of the military campaigns, articles on the war itself by society members, biographies of major personalities involved in the war, a user discussion forum and contact information for the web page manager.
Additionally there are links to related web sites that can provide supplementary information. Navigation and use of this web site is extremely simple, relying on an overhead data bar and ancillary data access points for each of the main topic fields. The web site can be use as a tool to teach web-based research techniques for essays. The articles which are brief and concise do not overwhelm the user with unnecessary data and its links provide access to more in depth research. It can also be used to show connections between the rise of Japan as a world class power and how its imperial ambitions would eventually lead to the conflicts of Manchuria, China and World War II. This site provides for a marvelous fill-in for the outline of history provided in our general historical textbooks.
