I enjoyed the February 9th session at USC. Clay's discussion of Confucius and other great Chinese philosophers was both informative and entertaining. I found this information especially useful to my plans to one day teach in China. Although China has a socialist/communist political structure it is surely apparent that a revolution does not change in one decade; or even a century, teachings that have existed for hundreds of years. Arguably, the battle for the minds of the Chinese people appears to be between Confucius (the conservative) and Master Mozi (the liberal). As the population of China continues to swell dramatically one can imagine a dramatic conservative wind blowing through the Forbidden City. Although the Chinese 'nuveau' capitalism will necessarily lead to some aspects of economic/social liberality I can't help but think that a mega population will force China to be more controlling of behaviors and ideas.
