Stop dog meet festival

I just learned about an organization seeking to collect signatures to put pressure on the Chinese government to stop the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. According to this organization, every year, in Yulin, China, thousands of dogs are slaughtered as part of the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. Before being killed, these animals are often subjected to terrible conditions, including starvation, torture, and disease. Many of the slaughtered animals are domestic pets stolen of the street. This is very sad. This is not the first time I have heard of this. The tradition of eating dog meat can be dated back for hundreds of years in China, South Korea and other countries because it is believed to ward off the heat of the summer months, according to the press Xinhua News Agency. I know I have been hearing more about this in the press because Lisa Vanderpump, a Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on the Network Bravo, had a protest last year about it where she marches on the street with celebrities protesting this festival. The sad part of all this is that the majority of Chinese people are against this festival and it is posting a serious threat to the health of the people eating these dogs who are not vaccinated and carry diseases.
