While a simple website, it is from a reputable source, not blocked with the L.A.U.S.D. filters, and provides for elementary school students a quick snapshot of China. The Day in the Life section is very interesting and while it certainly cannot tell us what a billion people in such a huge expanse of a country do in a day, students can relate to it. Native Lingo link lets students hear basic greeting words, the Timeline goes from 1600 BC - 2010 with some quick facts about Chinese history. The Sightseeing Guide provides a colorful map with bordering countries and some links to click on to see interesting sights, like the Great Wall, Forbidden Palace, and The Grand Buddha.

I could easily see myself using this site to assign students China for a quick discussion, poster, or group video on an intro to China.

Thank you for this valuable website. I teach an ELD class (7-12th Graders in one class) in which I am always looking for good and relevant news articles for younger students to read. I have focused on some global news including Malala and the unfortunate incidents that occured, but I would definitely like to use current news from China and other parts of Asia. Thanks for the resource!
